I have rras on a win2k dc and have no problems connecting
and finding network resources with XP clients. However,
the win2k clients can connect, but can't seem to get to
shared files. They can open outlook but can't utilize
it. Almost like it is so slow it will never happen. What
am I missing on the win2k clients that the xp clients
don't seem to have a problem with? (I am logged on as
administrator on the client.) And from the client I can
ping my two servers as well as my internet router. Thanks!

There was a long discussion on this problem in this newgroup some time
ago. The reason for this is that the code to manage the connection has been
improved in XP to overcome the problem that W2k had.

From memory, the problem is to do with the domain credentials. Try doing
a "logon using a dialup connection" from a W2k client so that the remote
client logs on to the domain correctly, instead of using its local logon
credentials.

Thanks Bill! However, I don't have a dial-up feature on
my VPN server. The clients use their personal e-mail
like AOL, etc. to get to the internet first. Does anyone
have an idea if Microsoft has fixed this in Win2k? Or do
I have to upgrade to XP? If this is the case, it will be
a drag because I have about 50 laptops that will need to
be upgraded. I am hoping there is another solution.
Thanks!

That shouldn't really matter. If the VPN connection is configured to dial
another connection first, it will still do that. If the VPN connection is
configured for all users (it will not show up if it is configured for a
particular user only) you get the option at logon to connect using a dialup
connection. You then select the VPN connection and login. The system
establishes the connection(s) and logs you into the remote domain.

Thanks again Bill! I tried what you suggested and
checked the logon using a dial-up connection box, then
selected my VPN connection (which does say to dial AOL
first), and the computer just shuts down and restarts. A
black screen appears briefly that says "The Windows logon
process has terminated unexpectedly. The system will
restart." I even tried just selecting AOL to see if that
works and I get the same thing. Anything else I can
try? I truly appreciate your time and assistance.
