Win2K can't log onto server but WinXP can

Hi,

I've got a very strange problem with my other office.

They have 6 computers - one running Windows XP, the other five are running
Windows 2000.

They lost power over the weekend and the server shut off. This morning one
of the employees turned it back on and tried to connect. None of the
computers running Windows 2000 can log onto the server and connect to the
shared drives. The one computer running WindowsXP is working as it normally
does.

All the computers are statically configured. They are able to ping and get
replies from the server's IP. The server can also see all of the computers
on the network.

Any ideas?

I was thinking maybe it has to do with the router because the computers are
statically configured?

If all the client's server are plugged into the same hub/switch and are on
the same subnet then it probably won't be the router.

What errors are you getting when the Windows 2000 Client boot up? Are you
getting any errors in your system log?

Hi Brian,

Thanks for answering!

They got an error that the domain controller is not found while trying to
connect to shared drives. I believe we found the problem. Apparently the
server was infected with a version of the IRC.Flood trojan. After talking
with a computer company in the area who had previously been infected, we
decided to reformat-reinstall the OS. Our office out there is small - 5
people - so it's an inconvenience for a day, but they should be back up and
running Wednesday. I read about it on the MS page and it really didn't
suggest a fix and when I check Norton Anti-virus' page, it said that it is
undectible with their scans.

So... that's how it ends up!
