Why does my browser (either IE 6 or Mozilla 1.4) hang for a full
minute if I try to browse to a non-existent host through a path using
my proxy server, e.g. http://www.fooobar.com/ ?
From Unix (Solaris) I get the correct behavior, which is to say, the
browser comes back instantly with a "proxy server unable to locate
host" type of message.
In Win2K, using either IE 6 or Mozilla 1.4, the browser simply locks
up for a full minute until something times out.
Clearly this is an OS (Win2K SP2) and not a browser or proxy server
issue. Thanks for any workarounds (besides not browsing to
non-existent sites).
