Hi all,

I own a small server colocated in a data center that I use for hosting small
websites, mail for myself, etc. I have access to MRTG graphs via the data
center and have recently noticed some strange things happening. Please
forgive my lack of knowledge here, I just bought the server for small-time
personal stuff for friends and family, I'm not really a network admin.

Normally my incoming traffic is fairly constant (low usage) while outgoing
(higher usage) follows the typical bell curve shape as the day progressess.
Over the last few days, my incoming traffic has MIRRORED my outgoing (i.e.
when outgoing spikes, so does incoming) AND bandwidth usage all around is up
significantly. I'm totally confused as to what could be causing this. Are
there any programs out there that will monitor TCP/UDP ports AND tell me how
much bandwidth is being transferred through each port so I can figure out
where this traffic is coming from? So far I've eliminated WWW, FTP and mail
as the source. Worries me a little and I'm not sure how to identify the
source of the bandwidth usage.

Thanks,

Scott

win 2000 admin tools has something called network moniter that will allow
you to watch data requests and bandwidth usage..
