I have a Windows 2000 standalone server that will be used
as a Web server. Question: Do I need active directory
installed on the machine?

It would depend a lot on your environment and what your purpose is. In
general, a self contained web server doesn't require AD.

Thanks for the prompt reply. It will be strictly used for
running a few web sites and Exchange server for Web Email
and also will have email addresses for those web domains.
It's not a commercial web server only for the company. Is
there anything else I can use to protect it besides a
solid firewall already in place and every step MS and
other security companies suggest to take to secure the
server. Anything else you might suggest? Thank you very
much

If it's hosting Exchange2k you may need AD ... check in the
microsoft.public.exchange.* groups.

Absolutely! I didn't see him mention Exchange until now! My earlier post
does not apply in that case.
