Win2K Adv Server - WINS

When I try to view my WINS server, using the WINS admin console, it
complains about not being able to connect to ( itself ) and gives a red
cross, if I view the WINS server fro another Win2k srver it is fine,

The remote registry service is running and I can share folders ( both are
things I understand are required for WINS console to work ??? )

WINS doesn't register it's own address in it's own database unless you add
it manually.

Question: why are you using Wins name resolution when DNS offers a much,
much better way to resolve names? Wins is Netbios based and therefore
doesn't support Domain hierarchies. Also, W2K will consult host file,DNS,
lmhost file, broadcast and finally WINS (last) during a name resolution
attempt.
