I am trying to install Win2003 Server (standard) on a box
running W2K Server. I have encountered the following
problems so far:
1. Trying to install from the MSDN DVD, when the install
tries to copy installation files, the following files
cannot be copied (they generate error screens and must be
skipped in order to proceed):
- gm.dls
- ntkrnlpa.exe
(I don't know about gm.dls, but ntkrnlpa.exe probably
shouldn't be copied for a "Standard" Win2003 Server
install anyway.) Restarting the install gives the same
results every time.
2. After copying all the other files, the install
finishes "preparing installation". But the next reboot
fails; after displaying the Windows 2003 splash screen,
there is a very brief flash of a blue screen, and then the
reboot starts again. The flash is far too brief to see
what is displayed. Trying to restart in Safe Mode (F8)
has no effect; the same thing happens.
I ran the Compatibility test before running the upgrade;
there were a few software incompatibilities (Old IIS, FAX,
a Roxio driver would be disabled) but nothing that seemed
serious enough to cause a repeated boot failure.
I tried rebooting from the Win2K startup disk, and got a
Disk Failure error.
Any ideas?
