Win2003 performance issues

Well I cant find the Win2003 groups so I posted here.

I have installed Win2003 Ent (180day eval, build 3790) on a Celeron 2ghz box
with 256mb PC133 SDRAM to play around with but its running as slow as all
hell.

Just to open the AD Users and Computers console takes at least a couple of
minutes, and to do pretty much any operation (add uers, add/remove computer
accounts etc etc) takes just as long.

Logging into the domain is no better. It takes a couple of minutes to load
and apply profile settings.

I could expect it to take a couple of seconds, maybe 10 or so, but a couple
of minutes? something must be wrong.

My friend is experiencing the same issues and we cant seem to figure out
what is going on. Initially my friend thought that the processor overheating
in his box might be the cause of it (but I thought "well if it was the
processor slowing it down, it would slow the whole computer down, not just
AD"), but after I installed AD onto my box we are both having the same
problems.

Has anyone experienced these performance issues and managed to fix them?

Would greatly appreciate any help!

Cheers :-)

256Mb ram is not much for a server machine. How is your DNS configured ? Is
your server pointing to itself for DNS ? Check your event log if you have
any errors there.
