I'm trying to set up a simple peer-to-peer network at the house. I'm using
nic cards and a hub. I want the win2000 box to be able to do anything on the
win98 box; viceversa is not necessary.
After way too much work (I've only done this once before) I've created the
following situation.
1. The win2000 box CAN ping the win98 box both by its fixed ip addr
(198.168.0.1) and by its name BUT the win98 box does not show up in network
places and cannot be found from there.
2. The win 2000 box CANNOT ping itself by computer name or by ip address,
though it can ping 127.0.0.1.
3. The win98 box CANNOT ping the win2000 box either by name or by ip address
(192.168.0.2) BUT the win2000 box DOES appear as a member of WORKGROUP on
the win98 box network neighborhood!
I've Googled about and searched microsoft's website, but can't find
anything, so I'm giving up and posting. Any suggestions?
