win2000 stalls at splash screen

I am running Windows 2000 and it occasionaly locks up at the windows splash
screen. If I continue to hit reset it usually will finally boot. This is
with a Soyo DragonPlus motherboard, 512 meg of memory, Athlon XP 1100
processor, and WD 80 gig hard drive. The video card is a Nvidia Riva TNT 64.
I thought it might be the video card and removed the old one to replace it
with the above card. I am still having the problem, so I don't think it was
the video card. Any other suggestions?
