Hi all,

My company windows network currently uses Win2000 server SP3 with DHCP
server on but with no WINS server. All clients not using DHCP and use static
IP. Previously, we installed SP4 but need to rollback to SP3 because there
are some errors on the servers installed program when working with SP4.

The problem now is, there are intermittent problem when connecting to PCs
across network. The server can see the client but the client cannot get
connected to the server or any other Pc in the network. The error message is
"There are currently no logon servers availabe to service the logon
request." However, this problem happened only once in a while. I had
installed NetBEUI protocol to the client but the problem is still occured

So, do I have to install the WINS server, how do I set the client computer
inside AD? Does it got something to do with NetBEUI or WINS at all?

What is the best configuration without using DHCP?

Please help. Thank you.

Do you at least have ms03-039 installed? Your server really should be at
SP4. You only need WINS if you have W9x, ME or NT4-clients. You don't need
Netbeui. How many nics in the server?

Hi,

I've got it. I just installed SP4 and all the networks problems solved.
Apparently, the downgrade from SP4 to SP3 of my server caused the problem.
We really need to stick to SP4.

Thanks Marina and thank you all.
