I go to system tools and try to run scandisk and it will
not operate. It stops scanning after 4 bars and won't
continue. I've let it try for hours to to avail. I don't
know if Properties/tools/error checking is the same thing
but that WILL run when I check disk C and check off: scan
for and attempt recovery of bad sectors BUT when I also
check off auto fix system errors I get this message: This
disk check could not be performed because of exclusive
access to the drive could not be obtained. Do i want to
run this next time i start up y/n? Any help would be
apprecitated. Thanks, Kathy

Kathy,

Just so you know the proper term, the drive checking tool in Windows 2000 is
called CHKDSK. ScanDisk is a Win9x/Me tool.

I would suggest having CHKDSK run at boot time (by saying "yes" when
prompted to run it at next boot) and see what happens. Does it complete
sucessfully?
