i have 2 questions about the windows 2000.

1) why do i keep getting disconnected from the Internet
when downloading large files (over 100MBs) for no reason?
i use Download Accelerator to download these files.

im connected by cable through a router. and, when im
disconnected from the net when downloading these large
files, the LANDesk Client shows that im still connected.

if i restart the computer, i'll be connected again. BUT,
after downloading a few MBs of that file again, i'll be
disconnected again. this makes downloading files a VERY
VERY VERY vexing thing to do.

wat can i do to stop this?

2) why are there so many .exe files popping up out of
nowhere in my C:\Documents and
Settings\Administrator\Local Settings\Temp folder asking
for internet connection?

i used Zone Alarm to block every last one of them. wats up
with them anyway? as far as i can tell, the names of these
applications are just made up of 3 random alphabets
followed by the number 1.

my Ad Aware does not ID them as spyware.

wat are they?

I don't think your problem is W2K related. I download large files such as .iso or
service packs many times on different W2K computers without any problems. I use
cable/dsl router at both locations. My guess is your problem is with your
ISP/Download Accelerator or possibly network adapter/drivers. Try it without DA some
time.

Hard to say what is happening with unwanted Internet Access. Try a different product
such as SpyBot Search and Destroy and a virus scan with up to date definitions. You
might try to see what address they are trying to access and then put that address in
your IE address bar to see where it goes, or searching Google for name of
application and port number to see what is found. Clearing your temp internet files
and hardening your IE privacy/security settings may help prevent more items like that
showing up on your computer. For instance you could use trusted Web Content Zone to
have more relaxed security settings for your often visited sites that you trust and
then increase the security setting to high for the internet zone for casual browsing.
The same can be done for cookie handling by setting privacy to at least medium high
and using the edit box to add your exempted sites. --- Steve

well, i get this problem when using IRC to download
fansubbed anime... so i dont think that DA caused this
problem.

and, Spybot didnt catch the .exe files.

Spybot is not designed to catch virus, only adware.
I'm suprised it didn't notice DA it's also an adgate..
I would assume (since you didn't give details like file
names etc) that you have some kind of virus, have you
scanned recently, kept your defs up to date??

actually, it did notice DA, so i unchecked the boxes for
DA.

yep, definitions are up to date and i've scanned the
harddisk a few times already. those unknown .exe files
arent classified as a 'virus'...

Since DA is an ADGATE I would get rid of it, you really
don't need it with the cable modem, from what I understand
access with the cable modem is measured by how many others
are also using their cable modems, if the bandwidth is full
you will loose connection, due to too many users, a
problem with cable modems..

there are sites that upload really slowly, so DA is very
useful when i wanna download from such sites.

and, i have never ever had any problems with DA on the
Win98, also, when i was using Win98 (with DA), there were
no unknown programs asking for internet access.
