Hi,
I heard that win2000 pro can also act as a server, it got some of the
server features, is that true? If so, do I still have to purchase the
accessing licence? If I want to open an internet cafe with around 10-15
computers, will the win2000 pro enough? What can a win2000 pro capable of?

I believe it can connect up to 10 users...
 
Hi Adrian,
That is correct, the Windows 2000 Pro system can only accept 10 inbound
connections, this is hard coded on the OS and can't be changed. This is
for file shareing only. Also, if you want Centralized user Administration
this is not going to work, you would need a domain and that requires Server
Product.

Can you be more specific on what you need the server for, what is it going
to do for you.

Hi,
Sorry, what do you mean by 10 inbound connection? You mean if win2000 Pro
acts as a server, it can only accept up to 10 clients? How if I want to just
make a workgroup? what will be the limit?
If I don't need file sharing, but just internet connection sharing, can I
just use 10Base2 ethernet to connect the computers together and configure
them to be in the same subnet, without joining a workgroup or domain at all?
In that case, is the win2000 home edition enough? Thx.

10 File Server connections to a Windows 2000 Pro computer is the limit in
any given scenerio.
If you mean your second statement, do you mean using the system for
Internet connection sharing, then W2K Pro will allow 20 clients outbound
through ICS.
