I just installed Win2000 Pro on my one and only PC in my home office
and I already have regrets. Everytime I logon I get the message that
states:
System could not log you on. Make sure your user name and domain are
correct then type your password again. Ect.
I dont know how to get to the domain, where ever it is, and i didn't
set a password for it in the first place. Win2000 Pro for Dummies
doesn't address "Administration" issues so I'm truly screwed. I would
uninstall and start over if i could only figure out how to do that.
Can some one please help me. I think I bit off more than I can chew
this time.
Thanks - Aladdinsgenie

Sorry you have regrets. I have machines running everything from win98
to XP and even Linux and my favorite by far is win2k. When you setup
the installation it should have asked you for a password. If not, try
leaving it blank. User name should be "Adminstrator" unless you
specified something else during installation. If it asking for a domain
name they you may be trying to log onto a network. Don't do that.

HTH.

Could you expand a bit on why win2k is your favorite? I certainly like it.
Seems like
XP is more for people who have trouble adapting new hardware and software.
I
especially don't like the XP policy of having to register my OS with
Microsoft and asking their permission to move it to another machine. I have
never run an XP machine and am only going on what are it's claimed features.

You can allways turn off the eye candy in winxp, looks much like win2k then.
Many software vendors now 'tie' their software to the specific hw, not just
MS
I run both o/s on various pc's niether give too many probs.

Sound like you set it up for a Domain, as apposed to desktop
The origonal setup creates an Administrator account,
Default name 'Administrator' and invites you to enter a password (Which you
NEED to remember)
Then it sets up a user, you choose the name and optional password.
You can select an option to allways logon or ask for password.
Further options are for setting up the network I believe this is were you
went wrong in selecting a Domain
