Hello...

I have a few 2000 Pro's that will not shutdown unless you
physically unplug the power from the machine. None of the
shutdown options work. They only restart the machine.
Any ideas?

Thank You!

Try using gpedit.msc, from the start, run command and change the
setting in computer config, admin teplate, system, logon and click on
the "maximum retires to unload and update user profile". Enable it and
change the default to 5 instead of 60. This will shutdown the computer
a whole lot faster! It may even fix your problem too, if not change it
back. It took my shutdown time from forever to no time!

If the system automatically restarts when you do a shutdown, you can take a
look at the following article to see if it helps. (Windows will
automatically restart if it encounter a critical error.)

Althought this is for WinXP, it's applicable to Win2K as well.

Rgds.
