Win2000 pro random shut down

Today my machine just started to shut down, This has
happened before and seems to crop up now and again.

it seems as though I have to reboot 10 - 15 times before
it will go into the desktop.

Sometimes as it comes off power screen saver it says going
to standby then shuts down.

Other times the shutdown screen just shows up and the
machines just shuts down, the if I try to boot into safe
mode it will also go to the shut down screen after it
comes out of the start up screen.

I have the win logon screensaver picked and have noticed
that the logon icon does not show up when the screen
blanks.

Does anyone have any info or suggestions on what may be
happening?

Check your logs and if configured to write a dump file

run dumpchk.exe>file path to get the errors and run
pstat.exe to find match of error.
