I'm trying to use an HP F2210 All-In-One Printer-Scanner with an older
machine that has a new Win2000 SP4 install and can't scan. In fact the word
"scan" doesn't seem to be found when using Windows Help. The machine is in a
location that has no Internet access.

The HP PhotoSmart Software I finally installed says nothing about scanning
either. The printer's drivers and installation CD did not contain any
application for scanning; there's a button on the printer and thats it.

I thought Win2000 provided native support for scanning? WTF?

Hello Hillbilly,

That is not a windows problem. You need the correct software/drivers for
windows 2000 for that All in one machine. By default windows 200 can also
work with scanners without any problem.

There's no Camera and Scanner Wizard like in XP then? And was there any way
to add one like a PowerToy perhaps? The word scan is so generic I can't find
much of anything using search anywhere.

Finally found this in the printer's "full" documentation downloaded from the
web...

Notice to Windows 2000 users
This product provides limited functionality for Windows 2000, including but
not limited to the following:
.. Scanning is supported using TWAIN or WIA in a software application only.
The Scan button on
the control panel will not work.
.. Copying is supported from the control panel only.
.. The HP Photosmart Software is not available.

An OCR app would certainly install TWAIN drivers but what other type of app
might also do so?

Graphics programs (Photoshop, PS Elements, Paintshop pro etc etc)
generally have TWAIN interfaces but as far as I know, you still need a
driver specific to your hardware from its manufacturer. Often this is
installed pretty much invisibly with the main printer etc driver and
your info from HP about Windows 2000 seems to imply that is the case here.

Then it should be just a matter of finding the menu selection in the
graphics program that tells it you want to input from a TWAIN device
(usually under the <File> dropdown) and it should then give you a list
of all the available TWAIN devices on your system - of which the scanner
should be one - for you to select.

TU to both of you fellas for reminding me PSP supports TWAIN devices.

Jim you are on scary looking dude. Are we cousins? %-D I hope you are in
Wisconsin. I'm sending you a kite via your website...anybody reading along?

Hi,

If you're interested, I keep an old version of Paint Shop Pro V3.2,
available for download at http://jself.com/ftp/PSP.zip

Once you get to playing with PSP you'll see it has a button to "Acquire"
which is its menu option to scan something. PSP is using twain to "talk"
with your scanner.
