I can't start my computer at all

OK so I have read all that I can find about MUP.SYS. I
know I need to install a patch. I have even found the
patch. So the problem is with the MUP.Sys problem your
computer will not start. So how can I install the patch
when I can't start the computer? Can I bypass this file so
the computer will start? Can I reinstall the MUP.Sys file?
I have atempted to start the computer about 50 times with
no luck. I don't know what to do now. Allot of people have
said to remove Novel? Or remove USB PCI cards. I have
neither. Any help would be a great help.

Thanks,
Patrick

Windows halt after loading mup.sys during boot-up

*I know exactly how mad and frustrated you are now. Be calm and try not to
throw your PC out the window.

This problem took me two days to figure out. My Windows XP got stuck during
the startup. Booting in safe mode clearly showed that the computer stopped
responding after loading Mup.sys.

I tried almost everything including numerous re-installs and even wiped out
my RAID array, but still no good news. Many helpful forums and sites
suggested different problem sources: enabling APIC, NT File System, updating
BIOS, and etc. After countless hours of trying, I finally found the problem
source: the USB 2.0 card. Taking the card out resolved my problem.

If you encountered a similar problem, try to take out your PCI cards
one-by-one. You might be able to boot-up again. Good luck!

Possibly nothing to do with Patrick's problem but I endorse Danny's advice
to remove EVERYTHING. OK the computer isn't a lot of use like that but you
can find out if it boots OK.

I had a W98 machine which refused to boot. 2 motherboards and several RAM
chips later ( mercifully under guarantee!) I eventually found the problem -
a short in the mouse lead!
