I'm totally stuck with this so would really appreciate some guidance. Whats
happening is that when you do a restart thriugh the start menu the PC wont
restart. It will shut down in the nomal way and boots up fine from scratch
but if you do restart you have to take the power cable out to start it
again.
I got to thinking it was maybe some software conflict so formatted the drive
but even then when it does its rebooting during this process the pc would
hang and not boot up. It is still this way now even though all thats on it
is the operating system. However as before on unplugging nd replugging in the
cord and starting up it is fine

Have I done damage continually removing the power cable?
Have I inadvertently adjusted a BIOS setting?

I'm stuck and could do without continually having to disconnect the cable

WinXP Home
ASUS A7V600 MotherBoard
Athlon XP2400

As I said before there is nothing else on the system now bar WinXP so it
cant be a software thing. I know I could shut down and restart every time
but I want to be able to use the restart option.I've tried Microsoft but
there not much help. I have ACPI enabled n the BIOS.

I'm mystified

I had all sorts of problems on my A7V600 set up and even gave up with
Windows XP and reverted to Me for a while. I am now back running with XP
and still have the odd problem. I would double check everything in the bios
including the FSB, memeory speed and multiplier etc. Also disable the on
board LAN so that you can rule that out as it does take up an IRQ space.
What power saving options do you have set in the bios - disable them all.
Are you sure the motherboard header connectors are wired up correctly, has
one of them fallen off. Is there something loose which has shorted across
the motherboard?

Have you tried clearing the CMOS and then re-enetering your BIOS
configuration?
