Hello
I have a home LAN where I have a Win2003 Std Server is a RRAS server acting as a VPN for my wireless WinXP laptop and Pocket PC. The RRAS server is dual homed with one NIC connected to a hub with an Access Point and the other NIC connected to my home LAN. My DNS Server is on the home LAN. I can connect OK using PPTP on the WinXP laptop and Pocket PC. The problem is I can only ping the machines on the home LAN using their FQDN (i.e. vectra.ad.local) and not by their hostname (i.e. vectra)
Any help greatly appreciated
Thank
Andre

Shot in the dark here, but:

1. It sounds like you are getting DNS server responses, but not any
WINS server responses. For hostnames to resolve in DNS, you need to
add the ad.local to your DNS suffix list in the Advanced Internet
Protocol configuration for your VPN connection...

2. You can add the DHCP relay agent to your Windows 2003 server
install that will allow the WINS server IP address to be passed to
your XP machine when you request an IP address.

WINS is required for proper name resolution, especially with VPN's...
However, you can do #1 to solve your immediate problem...
