Good Evening all. When I turn on my PC it would give me the optione of either
booting inot WIN XP or Vista. Well, I recently had to reformat my WinXP hard
drive and reinstall XP. Now I do not have that option. How can I get it back?
Thank you.

Hi Doug,

In order to get the option back, you will need to run the repair option
in Windows Vista, using the DVD you created. Boot from the DVD you created.
It should detect Windows Vista installation on the Hard drive and allow you
to repair it.

The mbr is pointing to ntldr instead of winload, bcdedit would not do much
good as it would not repair the mbr. What needs to be done is for the mbr to
point to winload once again, and this can be accomplished by booting the
Vista disk and running the startup repair. Vista boot pro is nice, but is
rather unnecessary here.

I did exactly that last night and it did not work. When I turned on my PC
tonight it went directly to WinXP. I have Vista on my secondary hard drive
and XP is on my primary. I was having a lot of problems after I installed IE7
(non-beta). I uninstalled it, did a sys restore and still could not access
the net. So I decided to format the hard drive and re-install XP. Now I don't
have the option of choosing which OS to boot into.Do you have any other
suggestions? Thanks

Ah, I see, I missed that it was XP installed after Vista that messed it up.
Yes, you are correct.

Hi,

When you booted the system with the Vista disk, did you go to the startup
recovery area and then use the startup repair?

No I didn't. When it came to the area that asks if you want to install and
then at the lower left side you have 3 options which Repair is one of them.
That is what I clicked on. I will try again and search for that option. Thank
you
