I have win xp home operating system with all updates.

My mach. is working great except:

When I try to use earphones through the cd rom drives they do not work.
I have a mach. right beside this one (win98 SE) and checked the earphones on
it and they work the way I would like it to on mach. with xp home. Mach with
xp home is 1000 mghtz, and mach with win98 SE is a 266mghtz. Would like
information pertaining to this problem if anyone has experienced? Thank You!

Reason I want to use earphones is I am an early bird and want to use my
computer with a learning cd. (want volume to listen, but don't want to wake
wife) my hearing is not great, so low volume through speakers really doesn't
work for me!

This may be a silly question, but have you tried plugging the headphones into
the line out on your sound card?
