I reinstalled my XP Prof. OS with one user name me and my
husband as administrator account and the default
administrator user Windows adds. I looked at the
documents and settings folder and there is Administrator,
All Users, All Users,WINDOWS, Irene, Irene & Husband, and
Irene & computername. What on earth happened? Only two of
us use this computer and we do not need separate
accounts. Can I delete all of these other "users" and
what is the best way. I am having problems because other
softwear I am installing or uninstalling are going to
different "users" windows picks. How do I get control over
this thing? Thanks

Reinstall doesn't delete old profiles and Windows adds an extention to the
newly created ones if the profile with the same name already exists, that's
why you see the profiles 'Irene' and 'Irene.computername', for instance.
Having profiles named as such doesn't harm the system, only USERPROFILE
variable (and everything related to it) is extended.
You can login as Administrator, delete (better move or rename) hubby's and
yours profiles and relogin. DefaultUser and AllUsers profiles keep initial
and common settings for real users - do not touch 'em. Return to DefaultUser
and AllUsers only (without extention) is more complicated, so once again -
do not touch it.
