Recently I took administration privlege away from my
kids, they are now limited other users. Now they can't
log on or even load AOL.
Is there a way to allow them to share this program, or
must I make them adminstrators????

Greetings --

This is quite common if the software was designed for Win9x/Me, or
if it was intended for WinNT/2K/XP, but was improperly designed. Quite
simply, the installation routine for this application doesn't "know"
how to handle individual user profiles, or the application tries to
make changes to "off-limits" sections of the registry or protected
system files.

I'm afraid you'll need to contact AOL's tech support for resolution
of problems with (or caused by) their product; Microsoft has no
control over AOL's product quality (or lack thereof).

Help us help you:

Naaaaaaa. As much as I scoff at AOl and its' 'hold your hand' approach
(which has been very successful) for some folks this is the only way they
can 'understand' computing or get anything out of being online.. At the risk
of appearing snobbish: if you ask the average user if they have computer
skills, they will usually be referring to being able to go online, get their
e-mail and read news pages setup by AOL... They would have no idea that
there might be another portal or Search Engine floating around, think HTML
is a new, natural method to quit smoking and certainly don't realize they
are being 'spoon-fed' stuff that is only a small part of the experience of
using the computer...They see the whole AOl idea of 'keeping connected to
all my friends' and 'all my friends are on AOL chat' as something really
cool, trendy and maybe that's o.k.... It does serve a purpose, just doesn't
serve mine...
It's pap, Pablum, i agree, but a lot of America still buys it..

To 'get rid of AOL for the kids' means someone in the house is not going
to have any idea about where to start and they will get frustrated and do
something really stupid like the person who installed 2 copies of Windows XP
on the same HD, realized he had a problem and wrote to a Newsgroup today
about what to do...Honest: it happened.. On the other hand, a friend of mine
had a Trial setup for AOl for several months and when it ran out, wanted to
go back to MSN.... She had no idea that getting this accomplished was any
more involved than going to the MSN Homepage and clicking on some
button...How come this doesn't work?....

She had never heard of an ISP Setup Disc.........She had no idea how her
Son got AOL on the PC in the first place(?)....Worse than that; She is a
teacher...Now, is there any way to help this guy? Hmm.
