Win XP Turn Off time ??

I am wondering if it is normal for it to take what seems at least a minute
maybe two to shut down my computer when I turn my computer off. ("shut
down").

Seems to me older versions of Windows are almost instantaneous.

XP shutdown is more thorough than the 'OK, I'm gone' procedure of earlier
operating systems..

It could be normal. The length of the shutdown really
depends on what services, processes and applications were
running at the time. Each must be terminated before the
computer shuts down.
 
Right, and if you have one that is not responding properly to the terminate
signal, or that needs to write data to the drive before terminating, the
shutdown sequence can be much lengthier.
