Hello,
This is quite an odd thing. I have a number of digital
photos I store on my system, in a number of folders. As
soon as I create a new photo folder and put some pictures
in it, I set it to the thumbnail view mode. Now the odd
part: it remembers this setting for some time, but
randomly, folders seem to get set back to details view.
I don't know why they keep changing; sometimes newer
folders change to details view while older ones remain in
thumbnail view. Most recently, though, every one of my
dozens of photo folders has reverted to details view all
at once, and it's a royal pain to set them all back to
thumbnails one at a time, over and over again.
That's the basic situation (more details at the bottom of
the message), and here's my questions:
1) Does anyone have any idea what might be causing the
folder view mode to change on all these folders?
2) is there a quick/easy way to change the view mode on a
select group of folders, all at once?
Further details:
- Details view is what I had originally set up as "apply
to all folders", but that was long ago, and I also have
the "remember each folder's view settings" checkbox set,
so it should remember the changes I make.
- I've installed SP1, and all the latest updates on the
Windows Update site.
- I just discovered further wierdness:
My photo folders are stored under My documents/My
Pictures. From the separate My Documents icon in the
folder panel in Windows Explorer, I navigated to the
folders, went through and changed many of the subdirs to
thumbnail view. Then, I closed that explorer window,
brought up another, went through the same route and
verified the folders were in the thumbnail setting, and
closed it.
Next, I brought up another explorer window, closed the
folder panel, and navigated to the pictures through the
Documents and Settings directory, down to my pictures
from there, and *none* of the folders showed the
thumbnail view! So I opened another explorer window, and
got to the picture folders in the original manner, and
they *were* set to thumbnail view! So in one window they
were thumbnail view, and in another, they weren't, but
the address bar showed them as being the exact same
location! Then I closed the window that had the
thumbnails enabled.
I then went through *every* picture folder in the
explorer window that had no thumbnails, set every one to
be thumbnails, and closed both windows. Now, if I
navigate through Documents and Settings, they are all
thumbnail, but if I navigate through the My Documents
link on my desktop or in explorer's folder panel, *none*
of the folders whow as thumbnail anymore! So somehow,
setting them to thumbnail view having used one route to
navigate there, blasted the settings seen when using a
different route to navigate there, all despite the fact
that in the end, it is the same folder I am doing the
settings on.
Any clues?
