My computer is a dell 8400 desktop and I have 2 hard drives. I tried a
repair install and got to a prompt: what ...do you want you login to? I
select the only choice and end up at a C: prompt. Don't know what to do at
this point. I really want to avoid erasing data on either drive? At one
point I was able to get into the repair install and as it progressed, got a
message box looking for a file on XP S2 disk and
to type in the path - this also stumped me.

Can I take out the C: drive and install on the D: drive?

You have to continue beyond the first option to repair to the second and
then repair from there..

You selected the recovery console, so it went where you told it to. Select
the install option, it will scan your drive to find an installation and give
you the repair option.
