Hi all,

First of all, I want to thank everyone for a near 12 months of solving PC
torments for me.

Here's the current one. I use a Pentium lll, 600MHz, Win XP Pro SP1, IE6,
OE6. For months now I've tried to download and install Win XP SP2 but each
time, as recent as today, it fails due to continual blue screen. There seems
to be no pattern as to activity or frequency, it just happens every few
moments as I'm working with my PC whether on or off line. So, I've had to
uninstall again. Each time I uninstall the blue screen curse becomes
non-existent.

I've followed installation instructions to the letter from various sources
including the MSKB. Anyone have any suggestions? Today, after reading a post
in this thread, I ordered a SP2 CD to try that out, but there's a 6 to 8 week
delivery time.

I'd appreciate any input from you.

Peace,
Tery

1st open system properties, advanced, start up recovery, uncheck the box,"
restart windows for failure",with the blue screen, what text does it show if
any.You might also chk event viewer for details, the SP2 only takes a week
or two for delivery, however its not going to help.

Microsoft seems to be stressing the PC's a little harder with each XP
revision.
The areas hit the most seem to be
Video card & Drivers
Motherboard chipset, BIOS & Drivers
USB subsystem & drivers
Accessory drivers (Printer, general device drivers)
RAM (More in ram parts of the system)
Processor cooling

Your system is an older one, and may need core driver updates, I.E.
BIOS updates and MBD chipset driver updates
Video driver Updates
More Ram

Does the event viewer show any errors?

Tery;
My guess is some type of hardware problem.
Make sure you have the latest drivers for all your hardware.
Consider disconnecting peripherals and uninstalling their drivers.
If there is any other hardware without a SP-2 driver, do the same if
possible (sound card, NIC etc)

If you have multiple memory sticks, are they identical?
Remove all but one making sure to stay at or above the 64mb Windows XP
minimum.
