Win XP SP2 Install Failed

After re-formatting drive and re-installing XP Professional I ran SP2 from
disk and from Windows update and it failed when it began the install.The
message was "Cannot read from or write to the data base".

Any ideas/help would be appreciated.
 
Error message that you receive when you try to update a Windows XP-based computer to
