Win XP Pro SP2. Retail package. A week ago I had a motherboard fail and
eventually got it all working again
with all new bits. It asked naturally for activation and I did this in a few
seconds over the internet.

The last week has been spent getting everthing sorted and a few hours ago I
disconected my Lan card in the Bios
to check something. On re boot, XP requested activation although the
computer case was not opened.

Now what do I do.......I don't want to activate online and use up my numbers
in case they are needed in the future.

Do it by phone - it is painless

No problem! You will never loose the possibilty of re-install / re-
activating the XP as long as the XP is still being used on the same
base computer (aka motherboard.)

Activation by telephone works.

Just by updating / changing video card drivers can "trigger" an
Activation request.

Also, since you "disconnected" off the network adapter, this is
consider a hardware change to XP. Network adapters appear to be a
major component that the XP Product Activation uses to determine that
"token" for the Product Activation system.

Thank you both for the help....
