Is there a way to change the 60fps cap under windows XP without downloading 3rd party software? I use my pc for gaming frequently and the cap is sort of annoying, especially considering having spent money on a top of the line GPU.

Are you talking about frame rate or the 60 hertz refresh
rate of your monitor? Frame rate is limited by your
graphics card and CPU not XP.

My monitor has a refresh rate of 85hertz at 1600x1200. In game (any half-life mod) I can only achieve 60 flat, never higher or lower. I am aware that windows caps either the framerate or the refresh rate. In either event, are you aware of a fix

Sorry, I should have mentioned card. =/

Leadtek nVidia GeForce FX 5950 Ultra

I did have a GF3 on my old PC, and that fix worked perfectly, but it doesnt support the new card/driver. Any other ideas?

In any event, thanks for your time and help.

Well i got that problem mate and from reading other posts on here im going to try downloading the correct drivers for my monitor from the makers Compaq, someone suggest that if win xp doesnt recognise your monitor properly it plays safe and restricts it to 60hrz so worth a try as my monitor ran perfectly well under win 98 se at much higher refresh rates .
