Win XP Prof. Doesn't Recognize Blank CD

When trying to copy files to a CD using the "copy to CD"
command, it keeps telling me to insert CD into Drive E.
I can't get it to recognize that there is already a blank
CD there. Nero and Easy CD Creator works fine with the
same files. Weird, but XP Prof. doesn't recognize my
blanks. I've tried taking it out, closing the CD burner,
and then opening and placing the blank CD back in.
Nothing works.

Were the CDs formatted for packet writing, the means of dragging and
dropping files directly to CD? If yes, that's the reason. While on some
systems XP can read such disks, packet writing is not natively supported in
XP. Hence, if the disks were formatted, you'd have this issue.

Hi,

Right-click the drive in Windows Explorer, select properties. Go to the
recording tab, and check the line "enable recording on this drive".

I did not format my blanks at all. They are fresh out of
a pack of 100 blanks. But it has failed to recognize
blanks from several different new packages.

It sounds like the Drive Letter for the CD drive is
something other than E in that particular application.
Try Device Manager and look at each CD's properties
there. It will show the drive letter it thinks the CD
drive is, along with any other CD drives you may have.
It might be drive F or G.
While you're there, note any problem indications
(exclamation marks).

To open Device Manager, click Start, point to Settings,
and then click Control Panel. Double-click System. On
the Hardware tab, click Device Manager.
For information about using Device Manager, on the
Action menu in Device Manager, click Help.
