New XP-Pro desktop (Dell) and laptop (Dell) networked
with old WIN98 through LINKSYS router which is behind
cable modem. All three can connect internet ok. The old
WIN98 system has an HP printer on LPT1. The XP systems
cannot access the printer connected to WIN98 - can't
even "see" it as a network device. How do I use the
printer from all three systems? Tried connecting the
printer to the XP desktop, but then the WIN98 system cant
get to it...

Thanks, but the NETBEUI fix didn't apply. This did the
trick-
If you have Macafee Personal firewall (Or others perhaps)
try setting them to allow inbound access for the IP
address of the other system. I just did it and now can
see the WIN98 machine from the XP-Pro machine (including
the HP printer !) and vice-versa

I had this same problem. It went away when I added the
Netbeui protocol to the XP Pro computer
(the Win98 PC also had Netbeui in its protocol list). XP is supposed to drop support of
Netbeui, but it is contained on the XP Pro installation
disk. I just installed a new PC (with
XP Home) on my home Lan that connects to a WinME
computer. It continued to "not find" the ME
