Was trying to install a clean version of Win XP Pro SP2 on a 10 GB partition
using a NTFS Ver 1.02 format. The HP OEM Win XP Pro SP2 install CD copied the
files to the new 10 GB NTFS ver 1.02 partition but during reboot produced
file read errors and aborted Win XP SP2 install procedure.
Was using a third party software disk partition and FAT32/NTFS format !
Finally had to do a low level disk NTFS partition format using Win XP Pro
SP2 install
CD before successfully continuing the Win XP Pro SP2 install procedure !!
Checked NTFS file system version after correctly installing Win XP Pro SP2
and discovered it was NTFS ver 3.01 !
Is there a Microsoft tech support note that describes what NTFS versions,
1,2, or 3 will work with different Windows OS'es ??
Does WIN XP Pro SP2 need a NTFS ver 3.0 or 3.1 disk partition to install
correctly ??
Or can Win XP Pro SP2 install correctly on early versions of the NTFS file
system, say ver 1.02, or ver 2.0 ?? Is it backward compataible with previous
versions of NTFS file system ??
Tried to get Windows OS NTFS partition requirements answer from Microsoft
Technical Support but Microsoft technical support could not answer question !!
Would appreciate any experiences related to this issue !!
