I have read that it is possible to use Win XP
Professional as a domain controller. Is this possible?

No, I'm afraid not.

Wherever you read that should be regarded
as a poor source of information.

You need a server OS like Windows .NET ^H^H^H^H Server 2003.
( That just cost me a dollar.)
