a) Check with your ISP if you are allowed to host a webserver. Many block
port 80 and hosting a server will simply get your account terminated if it
is against their terms of service.

b) The IIS 5.1 included with WindowsXP is limited to 10 simultaneous
connections and a single website with multiple subwebs. A connection can be
anything from a page to a hyperlink to an image. Anything that needs to be
linked to show up on the page. A single webpage often needs more than 10
connections. The 11th connection to the site will receive an error page.
If you need unlimited connections and unlimited connections, it's time to
move to a Server operating system such as the Windows 2003 Server family

c) Remember you will be letting people IN to your PC. You will need to run
a firewall, limited the ports to just 80 (and possibly 25 an 110 for mail,
but you'll need mail server software for that). Your PC must be VERY
stable, it will be up and running 24/7. It will need antivirus with updated
signatures.

d) If you want to run a webserver the PC should be used just as a
webserver. It should NOT be used as your primary PC... no surfing, games,
word processing or anything else you usually do on your PC. It's primary
function will be as a server.. it should sit in the corner and serve.

Consider what you want to do very carefully before you do it!

Another site which will give you more info about what you think you want to
do
