Win XP Pause on Boot-Up

I bought a PC 3/2002, and I had to install a new hard
drive. I was able to transfer the files from the original
drive before it went completely bad to the new hard drive.
The new hard drive worked fine until August of this year
when Win XP stopped working. I got it to resume working
partially, to the point where it boots up to the
label "Windows XP" and it stops there. It is not booting
to the logon screen.

How do I get Win XP to boot up properly?

Do I have to register the Win XP again?

If so how do I can I register again?

Thank you.

Hi,

Try boot in safe mode and select last known good config.
If still no avail, boot from the XP CD and select
recovery console.

Use the method as described on this web page below to
access the "recovery console".

http://www.webtree.ca/windowsxp/repair_xp.htm#How to%
20access%20the%20Recovery%20Console:

Once at the recovery console command prompt, type in:

bootcfg /rebuild

Hope it helps.

Peter
