Is "Using MS Win XP PRO" Third Edition by Que okay to use to learn
Win XP Media? I could not find a Win XP Media Edition book at my
local book stores. I am upgrading from Win 98SE on my new laptop
to MS Win XP Media Edition 2005, and feel I probably have a lot to
learn.............Thanks !

P.S. How can I get my "Control Program" to open in list format which
I hover on it so I can go right to what I want to click (like it does in
Win ME).

Media Center Edition is XP Professional with extra media features added and
the ability to join a domain missing. Well over 90% of what you need to
learn is identical between the two.

I don't know that particular book, but if it's any good for XP Professional
it should be useful to you.

A Google search on Windows XP Media Center resulted in numerous listings
that may help.

In Control Panel, click on "Switch to Classic View" in the left
hand column.

Here are a couple of books that may suit your needs:

Microsoft Windows XP Inside Out, Second Edition

Thanks Ken for the info. When ordering my laptop I had a choice between XP
Home / XP Media / XP Pro. Guess I should have done
my homework first, but seems I lucked out. I wanted Pro so I could
set up a home network and control what happens for fewer problems.
Now I have both.

I also put in a P.S.....Can you please help me with this question.

You're welcome. Glad to help. But note that XP Home works just fine foe home
networks and Professional isn't required.

Follow Nepatsfan's advice.

She could also get the "Windows XP for Dummies" book with the infamous yellow
cover. Crazy name, but this guy's sold millions of windows books...

I have Classic View on. What I want to do it just have it open when I
put the cursor on Start/Control Panel.........Not have to click to open it
in a separate window...............Thanks!

Nancy,
I don't think I answered your question about expanding the Control panel. Do
this:
(I am assuming that you still have it set to the Classic View...)

1)Right click on an empty area of the task bar.
2)Click on Properties
3)Click on the Start Menu tab
4)Click on Customize.
From that point, you can check and un-check any of the options you want,
including ***"Expand Control Panel"*** and "Scroll programs". I have a lot of
programs installed, and if I didn't have it set to scroll, it would fill out
the whole screen with installed programs to choose from.

Take care.

See the response from Big_Mack1 about making the changes in
Taskbar Properties.

Thanks for the info. FYI: However in my version of Win XP Media Edition
I had to go to "Advanced" and then choose "Menu Style" for it to
expand the control panel.
