To all,
I, like many others, had a problem with my new
installation on Windows XP Home seeing my old hard drive,
that was still FAT32. It didn't show up in Windows
Explorer, and although Disk Management could see my
secondary drive, I had no access to it, and only had the
option of removing the existing partition and
reformatting it to work with XP. After horseing around
with this problem for months, uninstalling and
reinstalling Windows, IDE drivers, the hard drive, etc, I
finally noticed that when I booted to the secondary
drive, which has a fully functional Win98SE OS on it,
that a program called Roxio's "Go Back 3" automatically
started up at boot up. I never installed that software,
and don't really know where it came from. It may be built
into my new BIOS ROM, I'm not sure. Failing everything
else, I disabled it which removed all of the Roxio backup
data from my secondary Win98 drive, which took almost an
hour. When I reboted to my primary Win XP Home drive, the
problem was solved. My secondary drive now showed up in
Windows Explorer, and I could access it again normally.
Remember:Roxio's "Go Back" IS NOT COMPATIBLE WITH WINDOWS
XP, and MUST be disabled or uninstalled from ANY system
drives that you want to access with Windows XP.
