I am having troubles trying to get them both networked.
My computers consist of :

1- Compaq XP Home Laptop
2- IBM Win 98 SE Desktop

I understand you need a network disk or a Windows XP disk
to transfer needed XP files to the 98 computer for them
to communicate. Unfortunatley I was not supplied with
these disks and was wondering if there is a way to
download software off website or if there is another way
around this. Also, my laptop does not have a floppy
drive.

Thanks for any help

It's not necessary to make a network disk or to transfer anything to
the 98 computer. You can make the same network settings manually that
the disk would make. Go to Control Panel | Network and:

1. Add these network components if they aren't already present:

TCP/IP protocol
Client for Microsoft Networks
File and Printer Sharing for Microsoft Networks

2. Remove these network components if they're present:

IPX/SPX protocol
NetBEUI protocol
Client for NetWare networks

3. Set the workgroup name to MSHOME.

4. Right click and share the desired disks, folders, and/or printers.
