When I start up my pc, I noticed that it takes avery long
time, maybe a minute, for some of the tasks that run on
startup to begin. I opened the task manager and found
that my user profile, the only one on my pc and the
administrator, does not load immediately. Once the
profile loads it's all systems go. This has only been the
case for a week or so and I cannot find an answer for it.

help!!

Are you in a work environment or a home user? If you're at work, it's
possible your profile is being downloaded everytime you logon, so any large
files stored on your desktop, my docs, etc is copied over the network.
Also, see what's loading on startup using start->run->msconfig

Charlie I have just experienced the same thing this
morning. Prior to today, each one of 4 profiles loaded
fine. Now today, loading personal settings takes 2
minutes and one of the profiles is totally missing it's
desktop icons. Any thoughts.

No apart from the fact I have exactly the same problem and it started round about the 20th Ja

4 profiles on a home PC all used to start up like lightning and then overnight it takes 2+ minutes. I have spent (and wasted) many hours trying to work out what it is. Have gone through MSCONFIG bit by bit, disabled everything and done every variety of restricted/controlled start-up that MS reccommend to no avail. Bootvis doesnt show anything although its got nice graphs !

I've run adaware, virus scan, cleaned out all my temp folders/caches, changed and tried/reset every network setting I can think of and even removed/reinstalled half a dozen appls including Norton system Works all to no avail. I even re-installed XP itself

I dont use network drives, my dns settings are fine and all my other PC's on my home wireless LAN are fine (non are XP though

The first profile to load will ALWAYS take 2+ minutes, although some of the other profiles can sometimes
take 10-20 secs (which was normal)...but this only happens sometimes

Jusr run out of ideas (and time !
