Recently set up a new Win XP Pro Machine on a Win 2k
server network. well everything seemed fine, and then
after a reboot, the machine detected errors on the drive
and tried to fix them. Then it prompted to reboot and the
machine was not longer ever to boot again. To make a long
story short, I attempted the last good config. ,try to
boot from CD, from boot files on floppy, etc. SO nothing
worked so I had to reinstall the OS. Well noticed some
issue right after reinstall and then decided to reinstall
from scratch rather than upgrade.

Now it doesn't show whether SP1 is present among the
other fixes and when the scan is performed at the Win
update site it does not recommend any. Also the machine
without any soft installed registers over 5 gigs used
(even though I manually deleted all the old software
directories that were no longer working after reinstall.

Help please,

Eddy

Well Tom,

For let me start by thankig you since your instructions
worked to resolve most of the issues. One problem I still
noticed is that when I try to perform the automatic
windows update, it states "there are no current updates
available", eventhough this machine is clearly missing
service pack 1, among additional fixes. Any suggestion on
this remaining issue.

Thanks again,
Eddy

PS. Eventhough I installed the drivers for this
particular machine from DELL cd's the USB's are still not
working.
