i have sata that i want to install on, not my ata100. so why then does
windows xp not show both hard drives durring the install if they are already
partitioned? it only installed on the c drive which is ata, and i don't want
that, i want to use ata only as storage and sata as my boot drive. if both
are not formatted/partition, then it will show me both hard drives and let
me choose to creat a partition and install on the sata. but if they have a
partition, it will go through the set up and i will say do not repair,
install. and it just automatically goes to the c drive ata100 drive. it
doesn't even allow me to select format quick or normal etc. it just goes.
what can i do to get this fixed so it will always show me both hard drives
and select what one i want to install on? because the only way to fix it now
is boot from 98 Se boot disk, fdisk delete non dos partitions on both
drives, then it will let me choose the hard drives.

Perhaps you need to install 3rd party drivers for the SATA drive during XP
installation. Although your bios may be detecting the SATA correctly I don't
think windows has native drivers. It is the same for installing RAID
configurations in XP.
I think you are prompted to press F6 and be ready to put a floppy disk in
the drive with the drivers on. This is in XP Pro I assume Home is the same.

Like I said with no partitions it works fine. floppy drivers are not needed.
someone told me windows installs to the first boot drive in the boot menu so
that might be why cus sata aint even in the obot menu, just the normal ata
one is. not sure if i can add the sata to the boot menu in the bios or not.

What you need to do is unhook the ATA drive from the ribbon cable and
install OS on SATA. As long as Windows see's the ATA as C drive it will want
to install there. After you get the OS installed on SATA drive then you can
hook the ATA drive up again.
Got to get any drives off the primary channel so Windows doesn't see them
until it has installed itself already. Hope this helped.
