Hi all, Just got a Win XP (up from an Win ME) and the
biggest problem so far is in using the browser. I've
always used IE and used to be able to open several browser
windows at the same time. Something on this version is
making me nuts! :) Everything happens in the SAME browser
window (even the pop-ups take it over) and I can't go
backward to my page. Can anyone help, please?

Right-click on your Desktop Internet Explorer icon and select:
Properties > Advanced and uncheck "Reuse windows for launching shortcuts",
then click "apply".

By default, Internet Explorer puts an icon on the desktop that is not a
shortcut, but it not really the program itself either.

Right click the desktop icon??????? Wrong at least for my OS. XP HE. The
proper method is with the IE browser open click tools on the toolbar at the
top and then internet options\advanced tab and then under the browsing
section uncheck "reuse windows for launching shortcuts". I Looked at your
way Carey and it doesn't work for me so I doubt it works for many who
configure their desktop properly by only having shortcuts there and not full
programs. Good luck.

certainly Pro does NOT put an IE icon on the desktop by default.
