Hi

I have got two Windows XP Home computers and connect to the internet
via a dialup modem. I share the the internet connection with the
other Win XP box via a ethernet network connection. I want to be able
to share a folder on both machines(which have IPs 192.168.0.1 and
192.168.0.2) and have permissions set so only the other machine can
access the shared folder. Ie

Box1(192.168.0.1) shares a folder and only 192.168.0.1 can access that
folder
Box2(192.168.0.2) shares a folder and only 192.168.0.2 can access that
folder

I do not even want these shares to be visible on the internet.
How can I do this?

Oh....if it helps I can already share the folders, but I have no idea
which machines can see shares, ie I can see the shares from
192.168.0.X but don't know if they are visible from the internet.

Cheers

Tony

Enable Windows XP's built-in Internet Connection Firewall on the
shared dial-up connection. That's all it takes to prevent the shares
from being visible on the Internet.

Don't enable the firewall on the local area network connection to the
other computer.

I've written a web page with details:

Hi, Tony -

You're safe. 192.168.x.x is a private network - nobody
on the Internet can see your files.

Oops.

Steve is correct. Although Box 2 isn't visible from the
Internet the files on Box 1 might be. ICF is the best
way to make sure your files are secure.

Sorry for the bad information - but it's the first
mistake I've made in the last ten minutes or so ;)
