WIN XP Home - Slow Startup/Perfomance

About 26 July PC started taking up to 5 mins to get to
logon screen and 2 mins to get to desktop. I did system
restore to 25 July but same problem. I keep the system
current with Windows update and run chkdsk and defrag
regularly.

Some Windows Updates cause a slowdown in your system though I havent
experienced it myself. Many posts here do talk about the problem. You
could try this tool BootVis from MS.
