win xp home(log off automatically)

kindly help me regarding my operating system,when I log on
it says( logging off, saving your settings)and it won't let
the desktop to appear imstead it again shows the log on
screen. when I try to restore the system, it says symantec
has detected a virus and had to scan for virus online but
it won't let me go to that step by logging off without any
log off command.
