Hi Ron,
After all my earlier "experiments", I came to the same conclusion. After
complaining, I got the second CD from the supplier. With the same problems.
Is it really possible to get two CD's with the same fault? I think I will
buy the next one by another supplier.
I want to use you as a reference in my talks with the supplier. What is the
meaning of the abriviation MVP (1997 - 2006)? Do you have a job by Microsoft?
Thank you for the identifiing of my problem.

Back to your problem.
With 2 different OEM CDs producing the same problem there has got to
be something else involved.
You said it was an AOpen AX4SPE-UN motherboard. I have been selling
computers built with primarily AOpen components for over 10 years, but
that is one model motherboard that I do not recall ever having used.
I see from the specs that it is a socket 478 board with the Intel 865
chipset so there is nothing really exotic there.
It appears that you used a different hard drive for the XP Pro
install. If that is correct then perhaps there is a problem with the
hard drive you were using for XP Home. Try downloading the drive
manufacturer's diagnostic utility and testing the drive.
You might also try shutting of the CPU hyperthreading (assuming that
your P4 is a HT model) in the computer's BIOS and see if that gets
around the install glitch.
Good luck
