For about a month my WinXP has begun hanging after a logoff and a logon. It
doesn't matter whether I am changing users or logging the same user back on.
When logging on a second time Win appears to start normally but, no matter
how long I wait, I cannot get any part of the screen to respond to the mouse.
I cannot select an icon on the desktop, can't right-click an icon for the
context menu, and can't get to any resources through the start ment. I can
Alt-Ctrl-Del to bring up this menu and can select Task Manager but I then get
a blank screen with no TM and no way to get the menu back. I have had to
start selecting Restart to switch users.

Any ideas as to what may be causing this or how to find our what is going on?

Hello,

You may want to look at the Event Viewer for some clues. Here's how

Start > Control Panel > Administrative Tools > Event Viewer

Look under Application and System for 'Error' and 'Warnings'. More
information on Event Viewers here - http://support.microsoft.com/kb/308427

Alternatively, use System Restore to restore your system to the point there
was no such problem
